This was the original sketch that I drew of the Im a Geek Comic Strip. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it definitely could have used improvement. At this point, the comic strip was called Nerds vs Geeks. Original characters were Smitty, Lee, Eric and Paul.
One day, I was talking to my friend, Chad Lecy, who I worked with in a hardware store prior to starting this project. I asked Chad to color the piece I did. It turned out worse than the original sketch, so I asked him to draw his interpretation of the character, and what you see above is what he gave me. At this point, I had renamed the comic strip, Im a Geek (spelled Im, not I'm on purpose. Don't ask me why. My wife and I thought it looked better and was funny?) and had already written the first 5 strips. Chad agreed to draw the series, and it went well.
After the first season of the comic strip, I wanted to stretch the story line a little more and I asked Chad to draw the characters with full bodies, which is what you see above. By this time, the comic strip was on the imageekent.com site with a thousand or so people reading it, and was at it's all-time peak of popularity. It started to go down after I couldn't decide what site I wanted the geeks to appear on, but they continued to get their loyal readers to find where the geeks where.
Chad decided to leave the comic strip after season 2 of the comic strip, so we had some replacement artist which includes: Allen Byrns, Kelly Brown, Powil Guzmanos, Angel Tovar, and Sean McFarland. The piece above was a promo piece by Allen Byrns, which features Bigg E and Paul for the Halloween Special.
This actually has little to do with the comic strip, it was done as a cover for the Im a Geek Anthology, but I love it so much. You might be seeing this in print soon (hint hint). This piece was done by Kelly Brown.
The Im a Geek Comic Strip has found it's permanent home on the Geeky Universe website, but it will be going on hiatus soon. We have another Halloween Special that will lead into Season 3 of the comic strip, done by Paul Salvi. The season will not last long, only a few strips, but it will end on a cliffhanger, because I do hope to bring it back at some point, though it might be a while til it does come back.
