Long Time Since I've Posted

I usually don't try to go this long without posting some progress with my projects. Right now, I honestly been trying to get back into the groove of things after having a fantastic time in Texas.

Updates

First, as you can probably see above, we have a logo (at least a WIP logo) for our web manga, Xaishu. If you can't tell, that is our character Shempai, aka Seventails. The logo is very influenced by SAO anime design, but also worked in the fact that Shempai's eyes are about the same color as the font used.

I have sent off some scripts to my other web comic artist, Adam, who is working on our comedy web comic, currently titled Gamer Bits. This is my first time back in comedy since the Im a Geek Comic Strip, and this will have some 16 bit art with some cartoony styling, so I am really excited about this project.

I still have 3 of my 4 children books in production, with the first one, The Three Sister Witches halfway done. That should be released in time for Halloween, which is a perfect release date. The one project that has been placed on hiatus is Scout Troop X, which is me and Shawn Wagner's project, has been postponed because Shawn had back surgery and needs time to recoup.

Other comics: Me and Carl Yonder's Peacekeeper's Academy is going, hopefully I will have a teaser page once Carl is done with Pirate Eye.

I have APAD: Luck of the Irish penciled, and ready to be inked, colored, and lettered. Dimas did a fantastic job with this project!

Temptress Society is now out! We have it on Drive Thru Comics, and will soon be out through Comixology, so stay tuned for that announcement. It's 19 pages that includes the origin story, as well as pin ups from some great artist. You can get it digitally for only $1.49, or in print sometime in October for $4.99.

Other than that, I will be making more announcements soon, as things continue to progress with my career.

FCBD was a BLAST

I was at the Source for the 2nd consecutive year for FCBD and it was a blast! While I was initially frustrated about missing my new book from Comicpress(!), it was nice to meet with local creators like Otis Frampton, Anthony Hary and Willis Nance. I also met a few new people who are now on my facebook and had some interesting conversations.

One of the best moments of the day was when I was asked by a 3rd grade teacher if I would be willing to discuss being a writer to his students. I told him of course! It meant a lot to me and I hope it happens because I started becoming a writer in 3rd grade after winning a poetry contest. After that, I began writing short stories and lyrics, which led to tele/screenplays and comics.

Other than that, I did meet some other cool people, got told that I should become a pro wrestler, which would be awesome and got to see Iron Man 3 afterwards for my friends birthday. Although exhausting, it was an amazing experience that I would not change for anything.

Now I have a few weeks to prep for Spring Con, then a little more time to prep for Texas Comicon. Times are busy, now back to writing for me.

Dark Lightnin' Cover

Just got the submissions cover for Dark Lightnin in from my artist Pete Woods, with a revamped logo. It's look really good.

Xaishu Web Manga

This is the first release of info of the upcoming web manga from myself and artist Alex Yoshida. The manga follows an alien couple that crashes into an alternative earth. Where they crash, they are met by a culture that isn't an advanced in technology. Although the 2 main characters, Pheng and Yashui aren't pictured (the alien couple), the rest of the main characters from the first arc are. I am extremely satisfied with the progress of this book!

The characters that are featured in this one are human, but come from a magical civilization.

The web manga should be ready for premiere in the Fall of 2013, with weekly (if not twice a week) post of original pages. Stay tuned for more!

The Gamer Promo and Page

For the last month, I have been slowly releasing stuff about the upcoming GN The Gamer, with myself and JP de la Rama, colors by Chris Allen. The picture above is a nice promotional pin up one by JP and Chris.

Now, The Gamer is the most graphic and gruesome comic I have written and really excited to finally this project come to life. The page above is the fifth page of the GN, so the book will start off fast with action and murder.

The project will soon be hitting submissions soon, so I hope that I will have good news in the next month or so.

Elementary Heroes: Return of Booger Boy

This is a short story I did with a fantastic artist, Marcus Rocco, who I will actually be meeting for the first time at the Texas Comicon in San Antonio in June. I should be having some in print for the con. But the story follows a small group of elementary kids, who are the kids of a superhero team. Even though they don't go through the same drama as their parents, they do have their nemesis, like Booger Boy. 

Oddly, this short was written after I wrote an initial one shot, so that is why the name is the story is Booger Boy.

Sneak Peak: Dark Lightnin' #1

After about 2 years of searching and failed collaborations, Officer John Brown looks like he is finally going to be submitted to a company. Thanks to Pete Woods (not American former Deadpool artist, my artist is from the UK), I finally have sequential pages for the project, Dark Lightnin'. The page above is page 5, which is one of my favorites in the issue (I could have shown page 1, but I will wait and tease people because that page is the best so far). The project is already starting to get colored, and will attach a letterer pretty soon.

Scout Troop X Character Designs

Here are the designs of the characters that will be included in the Scout Troop X universe. Scout Troop X follows a mysterious and unidentified but official Scout Troop out of Albuquerque, New Mexico and their odd adventures.

Scout Troop will be released in children's books and comic book formats, with it varying with the title. The first release will be in children's book form and called "Haunted House", with it hopefully being released around Halloween of this year.

Scout Troop X will be the 2nd time that Bobby B Smith and Shawn Wagner has teamed up (APAD: Full Moon is the other title).

Introducing Star Daniels

This character is for the upcoming Inflict Chaos anthology, which is being edited and coordinated by myself.

As for the character, Star Daniels, she was specifically written for the anthology. She is the assistant to the un-named villains boss. She is created by Bobby B Smith/Joe Badon.

Introducing APAD in 2013

This agency was actually created with James Bond and the classic thinking of British agencies in mind. The main characters are human in these, though we do focus on them in a paranormal setting. We dive heavily into the British culture in this series, as well as we focus on the human elements

You may have seen some of the postings of the Agency of Paranormal Activities and Defenses in the past, but 2013 will be the year that I will be launching the brand seriously. I want to explain why I am going to devote more time on this brand in 2013 than any other.



1. The debuting mini series will be released in 2013: I will launch the debuting the first mini series of the APAD this year. The book, story by myself, scripted by Jonathan Clode (I assist in the first issue), and drawn by Shawn Wagner. It will be produced by my brand, Im a Geek Entertainment, but I will actually be submitting this project to another publisher.

This is the rough pencils to the cover for the first issue by Shawn Wagner, which features Mr. Thomas and his legion of Super Werewolves. I am also fortunate enough to have the extremely talented artist, Larry Watts (Zenescope's Robyn Hood) working on the TPB cover for the series!

2. Multiple Projects: I will be releasing multiple stories of the APAD this year. So far, I have 4 projects in the APAD universe planned for 2013, and they are...

APAD: Full Moon- The first mini series of the APAD

APAD: Luck of the Irish- A one shot that features a new main character, as well as leprechauns.

APAD: TOP SECRET FILES- A one shot of lost short stories from the APAD universe.

APAD: Feeding Nessie- A one page story that features the Loch Ness monster. Will be printed in a 11x17 print.

I also have at least 4 other mini series/one shots that are plotted out, ready to get written.

3. Endless Storytelling:  The thing I am most excited about with creating the APAD is that the universe is seemingly endless. Not only do we have Robert Smith and the 4rd generation of the agency, but we can create from the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st generations of the agency (with his father, grandfather and great-grandfather), as well as the huge amounts of monsters that I can create. I have already created a slew of new monsters, as well as adding on to existing monsters.

4. Expansions: Not only will I have the chance to create amazing stories, but deliver great storytelling in other capabilities. There is a chance in the next year or so, that we will have a Characters Book of the APAD, since the universe is going to be expanding quickly. Secondly, I am strongly considering writing a novel regarding the APAD.

I am extremely excited about this series, and hope I will soon be posting more covers, and pages, and hopefully some good news soon!

The Gamer Promo

The first mock promo that I have released. It's not finished, as it is waiting to be colored and tag line added, but since it's creator owned day, I am releasing some project information a little earlier than I would normally.

About The Gamer, first off, I almost changed the name 100 times (because I don't want to be compared to a Gerard Butler movie, though that might have been one of his good movies). But the name stuck, because of the content. This graphic novel is about a professional video game player (Jesse), who goes off the deep end and starts killing people in similar ways to the video games that he plays. The story follows Detective Paul and Officer Jones as they try to catch this mysterious killer (character designs can be found here).

The Gamer also puts the team of iBotics together of Bobby B Smith (writer), JP de la Rama (penciler), and Chris Allen (inker/colorist)

Dark Lightnin' Try #2

I understand that life gets into the way of making comics, and I think that is what happened to the second try of Dark Lightnin'. The artist, Josh Templeton, has a family, and does other comic book work such as inks and colors, so he doesn't have that much free time to collaborating on a project. With that said, he said he was willing to get things going with Dark Lightnin and he seemed very excited. Within a few hours of sending the synopsis and previous character designs, he sent the character designs that you see above to me. I told him, lets do this!

Weeks pass, and I continue to ask if we was ready to start. I sent the first pages of the script and the overall flow of the story (some writers may say, a first draft without dialog). The weeks go into months, and I start to get disappointed. I'm not blaming Josh for not being a part of the project, it just sucks because I seen the potential of this series. Oh well, hopefully try #3 works out better.

For some fans, that may seem like a negative, but the truth is that comic collaborations don't always work. Before I commissioned JC to do Parallel Dilemma, I had 3-4 artist collaborations that did not work well. It's working as a writer in comics. Not all artist are motivated to get things done (not saying Josh wasn't, other artist I have worked with). Comics are a hard business to work in, and you need to be patient on certain projects, especially if you believe in them. I believe that Dark Lightnin' would be a breath of fresh air in comics, so the project will continue.

For writers who get into situations like this, don't be discouraged. I have had a few artist pass on this project, and that's OK  None of them said they hated the project (PLUS for me), they just had other projects going on (which is true, I didn't know they had other creator owned projects going on). I even had both artist who turned down the project, look into their schedules to see if they could make time, which I didn't even ask of them. But they couldn't.

It turns out, with Josh not being able to do this project at that time might have been a blessing. I started a few other projects, and things are progressing. I have started this project again, while working other projects, but since I just finished writing 2 children books and a few short scripts, I can open up my plate more. Hopefully I can dish some more stuff for you soon...
